‘Ensure’ is to guarantee. The method of guaranteeing that outcome is by the genetic screening of embryos, which the topic made explicit. So the argument is over whether deaf parents should be able to guarantee that their children have what is traditionally labelled a disability.

Yes, it is a moot – set for the regional final.

The expectation of the judges was that the teams would talk about the desirability of parents genetically breeding defects into (as opposed to out of) their children, with a particular focus on deaf parents (where there is quite a strong movement in favour of the proposal).

“Ensure” means exactly what it says…

Is that a moot? What do you expect from that as a moot? What do you mean “ensure?”
