In Round 9 at St Andrew’s College, New Zealand defeated Singapore and Australia downed the NZ Development team. Topic: “This House backs Barack Obama”

The Grand Final was won by Australia in a close 3-2 decision over New Zealand.

Topic: “This House supports greater military intervention in Pacific politics”.
Australia affirmed, NZ negated.

Round 8 was at Timaru Boys’ High School. The limited preparation topic was “This House would place national security above civil liberties”.

After eight rounds:

Australia – eight wins
NZ – four wins
NZ Development – three wins
Singapore – one win.

Round 9 and the Grand Final are tomorrow.

Two more rounds to go and Australia are through to the final. It’s looking like a shoot out between New Zealand and the Development squad for the other slot. New Zealand debate them tomorrow at Timaru Boys’ High while Australia take on Singapore.

Wellington Regionals will this year be held on Tuesday 11 March and then Saturday 15 March, rather than the originally advertised dates of Saturday 15 and Sunday 15 March.

In news just in from St Bede’s College, Australia have defeated New Zealand in a 3-0 decision and the New Zealand development team have beaten Singapore.

Topic for round 4 was “This House would withold development aid to non-democratic countries”. New Zealand affirmed and Australia negated.

In the morning at St Margaret’s College the teams debated another prepared topic, “This House would establish an ASEAN Parliament”.

New Zealand took on the New Zealand development team and won.

In the afternoon at Linwood College the teams did a limited preparation debate on the topic, “This House would censor internet bloggers”

Tomorrow the teams are off to St Bede’s College and Papanui College for two more rounds of limited preparation debates, then there is a day off on Wednesday. The teams will spend the day relaxing at Hamner Springs.

Round 1 of the International Tour was held last night at the University of Canterbury Law School. The topic for the prepared debate was “This House would use foetal tissue to treat disease”.
