Yes it was a fabulous debate and a very sweet moment when the result was announced and the room erupted into huge cheers. I have a huge number of photos and have sent a few to Chris Bishop and Pei Hwang.

The victors were crowned with wreaths, a delightful Greek touch so you’ll no doubt see quite a number of photos of the team wearing them.

This was a much harder competition than the last – the standard was higher overall, the teams more competitive, especilly the returnees, all of whom were desperately keen to do better this time. Team NZ had to fight more for some of its wins so it was unsurprising that not all were unanimous. They could have been utterly exhausted (and maybe were) by the 3-2 win against the well-performing Singapore in the semi-final but NZ were tenacious in the final. You could see in Ben’s, Jen’s and Maria’s performances that they just were not going to stand for the same outcome as Washington…and the result is history.
