Kerikeri High School wins 2014 Regionals
The 2014 Northland Russell McVeagh Regional Debating Championships were held on Sunday the 23rd February. The tournament was attended by Kerikeri High School and Whangarei Girls High School. There was also a swing team, comprised of speakers from schools who couldn’t send a full 3 speakers.
The competition was hard fought in three rounds of spirited debating by all teams. There was some excellent and engaging debating, especially seeing fresh new perspectives to the topics at hand.
The final was held between Kerikeri High School 1 and Kerikeri High School 2. The motion debated was ‘This house would allow prisoners to raise their children behind bars’. In a unanimous decision Kerikeri High School 1 was able to persuade the judges that the motion before the house should fall.
