The New Zealand Schools' Debating Council is thrilled to announce that the 2024 Grand Final of the New Zealand Schools' Debating Championships will be sponsored by the Free Speech Union.
Held annually since 1988, the New Zealand Schools' Debating Championships involve the best young debaters from across New Zealand pitting their critical thinking skills against one another. The Grand Final is the culmination of of the New Zealand Schools' Debating Championships. The best two teams will compete against other, with the winning team receiving the Debating Council trophy.
The Free Speech Union's support of the 2024 Grand Final will help to ensure that the New Zealand Schools' Debating Council can continue to foster schools' debating across Aotearoa, along with the key skills that debating promotes, namely critical thinking and the ability to think about contemporary issues in society from different perspectives. Participants at the National Championships will shortly receive a form to allow their friends and family to RSVP for the Grand Finals. The Grand Finals will be held in the Legislative Council Chamber at Parliament on 27 May 2024.
